PHIL MILLER UPLAND HIGH SCHOOL TAYLOR UNIVERSITY Phil Miller attended Upland High School where he participated in varsity track, baseball, and basketball. During his senior year, he pitched a one hitter in the championship game to lead the Upland Highlanders to the county championship. Phil went on to Taylor University and is considered one of Taylor’s finest all-around athletes. He earned varsity letters in tennis, track and field, basketball, and baseball. Phil set records at Taylor in the discus and javelin. He was also a member of the first Taylor basketball team in1933-34. Following his career at Taylor, Phil was asked to become the Director of Physical Education and coach the Men’s basketball team in 1943. He went on to play professional baseball in the Minor Leagues for the St. Louis Browns and played semi-pro basketball and as a member of the Marion Panthers, defeated the Harlem Globetrotters. Phil was a charter member of the Taylor University Hall of Fame in 1973.
