2000 MARION HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL Led by Future NBA star Zach Randolph, the Marion Giants won their then 7th state championship in 2000 defeating Bloomington North, and future NBA star Jared Jeffries. The Giants rolled through the season losing only 1 game during the entire year. Marion was ranked number 2 in the state at the end of the season and 6th in the USA Today high school rankings. Coached by Moe Smedley, the Giants had a wide variety of talent on the team. Randolph teamed up with Sophomore forward Allen (Deuce) Miller, Senior forward Matt Backs, Senior guard Todd Chin, and Senior point guard Reggie Nevels, to take the Giants on an amazing tournament run. The Giants six tournament games leading up to the state finals were won by an average of 15.5 points per game. The Giants finished the season with a 28-1 record.
