Sue Bowman began her coaching career at Indiana Wesleyan University, then known as Marion College, in 1970. That was only the second year for women's athletics at the school. She coached women's field hockey, women's tennis, and volleyball in her first year. George Glass had an outstanding career not only as Taylor University athletic director, but also as a coach. Glass was the Taylor men's head cross country coach and track coach from 1960-1985. During that time, he produced 32 conference championship teams, won 32 Coach of the Year awards and coached two individuals to NAIA National Championship titles. Terry Porter is in his 20th year as the women's head tennis coach at Indiana Wesleyan University. His team won the Mid- Central College Conference regular season and tournament in the fall of 2010 for the 19th consecutive year. Indiana Wesleyan is currently ranked 15th nationally in NAIA. A 13-0 record stretched its winning streak in the regular fall season to 195 matches dating back to 1995. Jack Courtney and Sheryl Trueman Courtney rose from humble backgrounds in Grant County to become World Champion roller skaters in 1968 at Vigo, Spain. The pair inspired other local youths to become involved in the sport, including future Olympians Wayne and Kim Seybold.Courtney and Trueman already had been successful skaters when they first teamed up in 1961. Jeff Todd had an outstanding athletic and academic career at Marion High School. 1969 was the begining of the "Fantastic Era" as the Golden Eagles ran past, over and through nine straight opponents while giving up only 13 points during the entire season. With such outstanding seniors as Mike Henderson, Jeff Howell, Kim Jones, Harold Hall, Don Hogan, and Alan Frank leading the way, the Eagles won the conference title and were ranked #1 Defensive Team in Indiana. 1970 was the second undefeated season in a row as the Golden Eagles soared to new heights. Again they demolished nine straight opponents, again they were the #1 Defensive Team in Indiana, and again were M.I.C.
